Infosys Technologies Limited (BSE: 500209, NASDAQ: INFY) is a multinational information technology services company headquartered in Bangalore, India. It is one of India’s largest IT companies with over 100,306 professionals (including subsidiaries) as of Sep 30, 2008. Infosys has a global footprint with over 50 offices and development centers in India, China, Australia, the Czech Republic, Poland, the UK, Canada and Japan. Infosys has over 100,000 employees. Its annual revenues for the fiscal year 2007 – 2008 exceeded US$4 billion with a market capitalization of over US$30 billion.
Infosys was founded on July 2, 1981 in Pune by N. R. Narayana Murthy and six others: Nandan Nilekani, N. S. Raghavan, Kris Gopalakrishnan, S. D. Shibulal, K. Dinesh and Ashok Arora, with Raghavan officially being the first employee of the company. N.Murthy started the company by borrowing INR 10,000 from his wife Sudha Murthy. The company was incorporated as “Infosys Consultants Pvt Ltd.”, with Raghavan’s house in Matunga, north-central Mumbai as the registered office.
In 2001 it was rated Best Employer in India by Business Today. Infosys also won the prestigious Global Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises (MAKE) award for the fourth year in succession. Being the only Indian company to win this award and is inducted into the Global Hall of Fame for the same.
Infosys was rated best employer to work for in 2000, 2001, and 2002 by Hewitt Associates. It continues to expand, actually growing by more than 1,000+ people per month. Infosys currently has almost 100 Fortune 500 clients with over 90% repeat business.
BusinessWeek reported that the outsourcing firm along with Wipro and Tata accounted for nearly 80% of the [H-1B] visa petitions approved in 2007 for the top 10 participants in the program.

Research
One of the major initiatives taken by Infosys in terms of research was to develop a corporate R&D wing called Software Engineering and Technology Labs (SETLabs). SETLabs was founded in 2000 to carry out applied research for the development of processes, frameworks and methodologies to effectively capture customer requirements and to iron out common critical issues during a project lifecycle.
Infosys publishes a peer-reviewed quarterly journal called SETLabs Briefings which has articles written by the researchers at SETLabs on various current and future business-transforming technology management themes. Infosys has an RFID and Pervasive Computing Technology practice which is providing RFID and wireless services to clients. Infosys along with Motorola developed an RFID interactive mirror for Paxar. The group has also formally launched a suite of managed-information services called as “Shopping Trip 360″ using wireless sensors, which was called by Reuters as a break-through service for retailers and CPG .MIT Technology reviewed as “Infosys turns stores into mini-Internets”.

- Infosys BPO: Infosys BPO provides outsourcing solutions across several vertical and horizontal focus areas. It operates in India, the Czech Republic, China and Philippines (through a partner).
- Infosys Consulting: Infosys Consulting partners with companies to find the fastest route to competitive advantage. The company focuses on functional areas and delivers solutions that enhance performance and profitability.
- Infosys Australia: Infosys Australia is headquartered in Melbourne (HQ) and has offices in Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane. In January 2004, Infosys purchased Expert Information Services P/L with annual revenues of US$ 50 million. Infosys Australia has committed up to US$ 800,000 in R&D assistance to the Australian government backed organization, Smart Internet. The company actively support Australian universities by their involvement on advisory panels, award sponsorships and industry-based learning positions. Infosys is an active member of ACS, AIIA and the AIBC.
- Infosys China: Infosys Technologies (China) Company Limited (ITSCo), is a fully owned subsidiary of Infosys Technologies Ltd. Infosys has invested an initial capital of US$ 5 million in this subsidiary. It’s 20,000 sq. ft. office in the Shanghai Pudong Software Park serves as an alternate delivery hub for Infosys in the Asia Pacific region. ITSCo seeks to achieve a high level of maturity in terms of software engineering process, by being CMM compliant. The company plans to offer surety of IP protection with a secure development environment by being BS7799 compliant.
- Infosys Mexico: Infosys Technologies S. De RL De CV is the Latin American subsidiary of Infosys. Their development center in Monterrey, Mexico serves as a nearshore facility for clients in North America, Latin America and Europe.
