Go Airlines (India) Pvt Ltd is the aviation foray of the Wadia Group, The airline operates its services under the brand GoAir. GoAir launched its operations in November 2005. GoAir, a low-fare carrier launched with the objective of commoditising air travel, offers airline seats at marginal premium to train fares across India. The airline (as of December 2008) operates across 11 destinations through 561 weekly flights.
Go Air is a low-cost airline based in Mumbai, India. It operates domestic passenger services to 11 cities with 385 weekly flights. Its main base is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai.
The airline was established in June 2004. On 9 June 2005 GoAir announced that it intended to launch operations in October 2005 with a fleet of 20 leased Airbus A320 aircrafts. Initial flights were in the southern and western areas of India with the first nine A320s, the remaining 11 aircraft being added in the second year. It started operations on 4 November 2005. An order for 10 aircraft from the Airbus A320 family (with options for 10 more) was announced in July 2006. GoAir announced in mid-January 2007 that it plans to sell a large minority ownership position to assist it with funds for continued expansion as well as to improve chances for the sale and leaseback of additional A320 aircraft.
The airline has a strategic tie-up with Singapore Airlines Engineering Company (SIAEC), one of the Best engineering companies in the world, for its maintenance and engineering requirements of its aircraft. The airline has also partnered with Radixx International of Orlando, Florida, a leading technology provider of automated aviation and travel related software solutions, for the use of its Air Enterprise. Radixx has taken over all reservations and passenger management functions from GoAir’s previous vendor.
Go Air is wholly owned by the Wadia Group, which has been synonymous with leading Indian companies, through its brands Britannia and Bombay Dyeing.
Fleet: The airline uses the state-of-the-art Airbus A320 aircraft fleet. As part of its aggressive future outlook, GoAir plans to increase its fleet size to 18 by March 2009 and 34 to March 2011 to induct new routes while efficiently servicing existing ones.
